Cyst Treatment Options

We offer specialist private treatment for sebaceous cysts, serving Scottish Borders patients from our Edinburgh-based clinic. Our expert-led approach is tailored to each individual, ensuring both effective removal and careful consideration of cosmetic outcomes.

We ensure patients are fully informed and involved in choosing the best treatment option, taking into account factors like the cyst’s size, location, and the patient’s preferences. Observation. For small, symptom-free cysts, we may recommend monitoring for any changes rather than immediate treatment.

Incision and Drainage. This procedure offers quick relief for painful, swollen cysts by draining the contents. However, as the cyst sac remains, there's a higher chance of recurrence.

Surgical Excision. For a more definitive solution, the entire cyst, including its sac, is surgically removed, greatly reducing the likelihood of recurrence. This is performed under local anaesthesia.

Antibiotics. If the cyst is infected, antibiotics may be prescribed to treat the infection, although this won’t remove the cyst itself.

03 What should I expect during the consultation?

In many cases, yes — if the cyst is suitable for immediate removal and you’re happy to proceed, treatment can often take place at the same appointment.

Prices start at £695 for small cysts (under 2cm). We’ll provide a full quotation during your appointment based on the size, number, and complexity of the cyst(s).

07 Can I drive myself to the clinic from the Borders?

While the drive takes approximately 55 minutes from Peebles to just over an hour from Melrose, and free parking is available, we don’t recommend driving yourself home if you’re having a procedure. You may wish to bring someone with you or use public transport or a taxi.
